A South Dakota woman has hung up her apron after nearly five decades in the fast-food industry . June Aulner, a long-time shift leader at Burger King, has been a constant presence across multiple restaurant locations in the Sioux Falls area.

She bid farewell to her career on Friday, after 48 years of service, with her family and colleagues gathering to mark her final day at work. Having been a part of the Burger King team since 1976, Aulner has accumulated a wealth of memories with her co-workers and patrons over the years.

"It warms my heart when I have somebody coming in or going through our drive-thru and they say I trained them when they were in college or before they moved away and got married," she shared. Now retired, Aulner is looking forward to saying goodbye to early mornings and spending more time with her grandchildren, reports WISTV.

Meanwhile, Burger King has launched a new $5 value meal deal that outshines McDonald's offering in several ways. The $5 Your Way Meal, which was last available for a limited time in selected parts of the US in 2023, is now back for the summer across the country.

The deal includes a choice of one of three sandwiches, a Whopper Jr, a Bacon Cheeseburger, or Chicken Jr, along with four chicken nuggets, fries, and a soft drink.

Fast food chains are battling falling customer numbers as Americans, many of whom are fatigued after two years of price increases, stay away, leading to the roll-out of special offers. This comes as McDonald's plans to launch a nearly identical $5 meal bundle from June 25 for a month, reports The Daily Mail Online.

Customers at McDonald's will get either a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, fries, a soft drink, and four McNuggets. However, fast food enthusiasts argue that the Burger King deal has key advantages over its competitors. It launches sooner, runs for 'several' months rather than just one, and is expected to be available at almost all outlets.
