A man from Sioux Falls was arrested after a shooting incident on Thursday near 33rd Street and Cliff Avenue, said Sgt. Sean Kooistra, of the Sioux Falls Police Department, during a media briefing Friday.

According to Kooistra, police received a report of a car crash and gunshots at 7:18 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived at the scene and began talking to victims, a vehicle that matched the witnesses’ description of the suspect vehicle pulled up to the scene. The driver asked police if the victims were OK.

The victims told police that the driver was the suspect, and the driver fled the scene.

Police pursued the vehicle, and they located the suspect with assistance from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, said Kooistra. The suspected was arrested on four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated eluding law enforcement as a felony and reckless discharge of a firearm.

There were four victims, an adult and three juveniles. No injuries were reported, said Kooistra.

The details of how the incident began are unclear. The investigation is ongoing.

The man arrested is not named, because this is not a case the Argus Leader would follow through the criminal court system at this time.
