SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Huset’s Speedway inducts new members to its Hall of Fame every year. This weekend, the race track will celebrate five new members.

Narrowing it down to five inductees every year is tough, according to Husets Hall of Fame chair person Rod Pattison. Pattison says inductees had to be at least 50 years old or out of racing for five years. For some it’s hard to give up their passion.

“We’ve got Hall of Fame people that like Chuck McGillivray, for example. He’s in his seventies. He’s been in the Hall of Fame for a while, and he will never stop racing. So we’ve actually had to adjust our bylaws somewhat to get some deserving people in that that really need to be there,” Husets Hall of Fame chair person Rod Pattison said.

Gary Brown Jr, Vernon Hehn, Chad Mellenberndt, Barb Wieskus, and Harlan TerWee, make up the Huset’s 2024 Hall of Fame induction class. A list that comes with a boast of accolades.

“Well, Gary Brown Junior is a shoe in second all time in overall wins at the track, by far and away the leader in the late model Street stock division as far as wins is concerned. You’ve got Chad Mellenberndt, who had one of the greatest streaks in Husets history. We’re very, very excited and proud of our five this year,” Pattison said.

The five inductees will be celebrated on Sunday along with the induction ceremony at intermission of the races at Huset’s Speedway.

“The Hall of Fame members, inductees and family will have a social in the turn four tower up in turn three from five until seven that is open to the public, that does buy a race ticket and each inductee will receive a plaque and recognition for for a job well done,” Husets Hall of Fame chair person said.

Pattison says it hard to remember all the legends that step foot into Huset’s Speedway so he encourages nominations from fans.

“If somebody is out there that thinks that they know a person that should be in the Hall of Fame. Send it to us through the nominations page at Husets. It’s Hall of Fame dot com and we’ll definitely take a look at it,” Pattison said.

The social hour and induction ceremony will take place Sunday, July 14th, in the afternoon.
