    Flash flooding occurring in parts of Siouxland

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — (Updated: 12:21pm 7/19/24) — The NWS in Sioux Falls has issued another Flash Flood Warning has been issued until 3pm CDT for Yankton and Cedar Counties where 1-2″ of rainfall has fallen and rainfall rates of up to 2″ per hour are possible.

    Previous (11:25am) — Flash Flooding has occurred in parts of Siouxland this morning. As of just before 11:30am, southern parts of Yankton County in South Dakota, and northern parts of Cedar County in Nebraska, have seen as much as 2-4″ of rainfall, and additional 1-3″ of rainfall could fall.

    Hence, the NWS in Sioux Falls has issued Flash Flood Warnings in Yankton County until 1:45pm, and in Cedar County until 2pm. Other areas, particularly in southeast South Dakota or northeast Nebraska could see more flash flooding and alerts issued. This could lead to flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

    Jeff Chapman from the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls states that “Radar estimates of 3 to 6 inches per hour in most intense storms verified by several personal weather station rates, so flash flooding is imminent around the Yankton area!”
