One person had to be treated by emergency responders following a residential fire Saturday in Sioux Falls, according to a press release from Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

Firefighters responded at 3:30 p.m. to 600 block of N. Cleveland Avenue for reports of a structure fire. When they arrived, they discovered smoke and flames, with the main part of the fire in the basement.

"Multiple crews worked on extinguishing the fire as well as searching for occupants," the release states. "While completing a search of the building, one victim was located."

The crew extinguished the fire within 5 minutes, and then ventilated the smoke in approximately 30 minutes. The home was not significantly damaged and no residents were displaced, the release states.

The person found inside was treated on scene by paramedics, then released.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No responders were injured.

"Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents of the importance of working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as establishing and practicing escape plans," the release states.
