Certain Residents Living Along Black Hawk Lake In Lake View Are Under Boil Advisory
Certain residents living along the south and east sides of Black Hawk Lake in Lake View have been placed in a boil advisory upon having their water returned. At 7:00 a.m. this (Saturday) morning, water to residents living at the intersection of East Shore Drive and Rolf Ave, west along South State Road to Gun Shot Hill, had water shut off while city crews came in to repair a water line, and will be placed in a boil advisory while water pressure returns. The advisory will remain in effect until Tuesday, when two test samples have returned with negative results for any contamination. Any water used for consumption must be boiled for at least two minutes, or use bottled water as an alternative. Water is still safe to use for laundry, showering, and basic cleaning.

Eastern Iowa Faces Severe Thunderstorm Watch: 2” Hail, Winds Up to 70 MPH Likely
Davenport, IA – Northern and Eastern Iowa are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued by the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. The watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning, warning of scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, isolated large hail events up to 2 inches in diameter, and the potential for a tornado.

Iowa man found guilty of murder in fatal shooting of police officer Kevin Cram
ALGONA, Iowa — A jury found a northern Iowa man guilty of murdering a small-town cop before he led police on a manhunt that ended in Minnesota last fall.Kyle Ricke was convicted on Thursday of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Alonga police officer Kevin Cram on Sept. 13, 2023.Ricke shot Cram during an attempted arrest. Ricke had an active warrant for harassment. Cram was hospitalized and later died. Cram had been with the Algona Police Department since 2015, and before that served the Nora Springs Police Department for two years.After the shooting, Ricke fled and was eventually arrested near Sleepy Eye, Minnesota later the same night.Algona is a town of about 5,300 residents about 40 miles from the Iowa-Minnesota border.

Master Gardener Applications Open Through ISU Extensions
The Master Gardener training program is open for applications across the state of Iowa. This program will teach interested individuals about horticulture, as they learn through online and in person workshops. Classes for the program will take place from September 3rd to November 8th, with an on campus class in Ames on October 26th. To officially become a Master Gardener, individuals will need to finish the course after applying and being selected to participate, then volunteer for 40 hours in their training county by the end of the next calendar year, and stay involved after completing the internship by taking 10 hours of classes to continue their education and volunteering 20 hours annually.
