Regulation Changes Coming to Lake Mille Lacs
Minnesota DNR officials met with the Mille Lacs Advisory committee this week. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says big regulation changes are expected to happen. Schmitt says starting on August 16 anglers will be able to keep two walleyes on Mille Lacs from 18 to 20 inches. The angling pressure was about 1/3 of what the DNR had projected which means only 26% of the allowable harvest was taken this year and that was catch and release mortality because catch and release was the only thing allowed.

EPA issues fuel waivers in Illinois, other Midwest states after refinery shutdown
CHICAGO (CBS) — The federal government is working to help fuel shortage issues in Illinois and across the Midwest after gas supplies were impacted by the shutdown of a refinery in joliet. The Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to a fuel waiver for Illinois. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. The idea is this would boost fuel supply and lower gas prices across the Midwest. Exxon Mobil shut down its refinery in Joliet this summer after severe weather hit the area. Hurricanes and tornadoes typically disrupt the fuel network in late summer and early fall. The waiver suspends federal anti-smog rules that require selling less evasive but more expensive gasoline in the summer. Gas prices have surged across the region because of the outage.According to AAA, gas is at $4.55 in Chicago and $4.30 in the suburbs on average. In northwest Indiana, it's sitting at $3.97 a gallon. The waiver will be active through Aug. 20. Experts say you can anticipate seeing gas drop in the coming days.

This heavy rain situation I’m talking about isn’t going to flood everyone. We can use Wisconsin right now as an example of what should be over southern Lower Michigan late tonight and Friday. Wisconsin has had very heavy rainfall in patches of thunderstorms today. Currently this evening there are three flash flood warnings in central Wisconsin due to rain amounts of two to five inches in a short time.
