Improving Faith in the World Full of Trials

    2024-02-12

Human beings are living in times when trials and tribulations are on the rise. In Islamic terminology, these trials are called ‘Fitna’ most of which have already come to pass. Muslims all over the world worry about the safety of their faith and look for scholars who guide them toward the truth. This article will provide perspective and solutions to help improve faith in these troubling times.

    Know About Fitna

To improve faith in the age of trials, Muslims first need to grasp the meaning of the word ‘fitna’. This word is derived from the Arabic word ‘fitn’ which means to ‘test gold from fire’. This means that fitna are trials put by Allah in every time and age to test His believers. In this context, a grown-up Muslim must grasp that life is a test in general. The trials that Allah put people through are not meant to break them but to test their faith. Thus, Muslims shouldn’t face these trials with a defensive mindset but with an attacking mindset.

    Strive for Knowledge

One of the major trials Muslims are facing is their lack of understanding of Islam, its traditions, values, principles, etc. With this lack of knowledge about the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet, and His Companions, Muslims have lost sight of the afterlife. It has impacted the faith of Muslims and as prophesized, they have started loving this world and fearing death. Thus, striving for knowledge and wisdom is vital as they’re the heritage of believers as stated by the prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H.

    Acquire Skills

Acquiring skills is vital for Muslims that can help them change the world for the better and gain rewards in the afterlife. Jinnah is the shining example of a Muslim who had the skill to fight for the rights of Muslims through debate. He was a lawyer, a profession that taught him to debate and argue. Iqbal had the skill to arouse the emotions of the masses through poetry. He read and learned about Islam and used poetry to inspire Muslims when other poets used to write romantic poetry. Several other examples show that acquiring skills builds confidence to fight against evil. Thus, Muslims must build skill sets and use them to change the world for the better and gain Allah’s blessings.

    Rewire Your Brain

This is another practical solution to gain spiritual strength in a world full of trials. Recent scientific researches show that the subconscious mind is the major part of the brain that stores information and processes it. The unwanted and garbage data Muslims are consuming in everyday life is also polluting their subconscious mind. Listening to false motivational speakers and people who only talk about money and fame, is weakening their faith. Thus, Muslims worried about their afterlife can change neuron alignment by changing the data they consume. Read the Quran, the life of Prophet P.B.U.H and His Companions, Islamic history, etc. This exercise will rewire brain cells and help Muslims look at this world from the perspective of Allah and not from the perspective of worldly people.

Hold on to the Basics of Islam

Islam stands on five pillars i.e. Shahadah, five prayers, fasting in Ramada, Zakat, and Hajj. Every Muslim must hold on to these basics of Islam and then strive to improve further. Most Muslims struggle to pray five times a day in this age of distractions. Prayer is the basic pillar of Islam and is the major way to ask for Allah’s help and mercy. Muslims who worry about the afterlife must hold on to five prayers and all the other basics to keep their grip tight on the rope of Allah. Pray Tahajjud as it contains several benefits for Muslims especially believers who fear Allah and standing in front of Him in the afterlife.

    Perform Umrah

Although Hajj is an obligatory act for every Muslim at least once in a lifetime if he is eligible, performing Umrah is the best alternative. Retain spiritual strength by visiting the house of Allah, the holy graves of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H and His companions, and other historical places. This is one of the major sources of removing sins that Muslims engage in, in this life full of trials and tribulations. Several travel agencies provide Umrah and Hajj services to Muslims who desire to keep their bond strong with Allah Almighty.
