Weather heating up for the weekend
The weather will heat up this weekend across the county as temperatures rocket toward 80 degrees and above. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory from noon Friday until 10 p.m. Tuesday for areas in Western Washington, including Skagit County. Annual fireworks show held at Big Lake
BIG LAKE — A fireworks show was held at Big Lake on Wednesday for the 60th time. The 3rd of July Fireworks Show is put on each year by the Big Lake Firefighters Association. Donations were collected to go toward helping the fire district purchase new equipment such as radios, jaws of life and other lifesaving equipment. Other fireworks shows were held Thursday throughout Skagit County.
First participants in Startup School graduate
The Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County has graduated its first class of entrepreneurs through Startup School. The 12-week course was a partnership between several organizations with the goal of helping both up-and-coming and established entrepreneurs. The Skagit Tourism Bureau is offering free customer service training tailored to businesses in the Skagit Valley. Tourism Bureau CEO Kristen Keltz said the training is being offered to businesses for free thanks to a grant from the Island County Economic Development Association. The training, which rolled out mid-March, is made up of short videos to help businesses provide customer service that helps to make the Skagit Valley a destination. ...

DEER HARBOR, Wash. — Everything about the day was typical, family and friends of Bill Anders said. It was typical for him to take a plane from the Heritage Flight Museum he founded in Skagit County to fly his typical "Orcas run," past his previous home in the San Juan Islands.
