Dunleavy Signs Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, Vetoes Money For KPBSD
Governor Mike Dunleavy transmitted the Fiscal Year 2025 state operating and capital budgets on Friday, June 28. The Governor line-item vetoed and signed the appropriation bills Thursday afternoon. One of the line item vetoes included $11.9 million marked by the legislature for the Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage School Districts to settle a dispute over pandemic relief funds.
FPD arrests missing suspect in Fairbanks
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - UPDATE: Carleen Charlie was located and arrested for Unlawful Evasion in the 1st Degree. The Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) is seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Carleen Laura Charlie. Charlie is an absconder from the Northstar Center halfway house. Charlie was convicted of murder in 2015, and after serving 9 years she was sent to the Northstar Center on June 4, 2024.
Akiak residents say weeks without power have ruined frozen food stores, drained savings
Akiak has three diesel generators that are supposed to power the town, but they’ve been plagued by mechanical problems. Since mid-June, Akiak has been without consistent municipal power. It’s the second extended outage the 450-person community has faced in the past two months. In May, the community dealt with a five-day outage. City administrator Aleck Jackson has said that it’s part of a bigger pattern.

Building, property donated to Older Persons Action Group
A building and property have been donated to nonprofit Older Persons Action Group, Inc. (OPAG), a statewide organization that advocates for Alaska seniors. The Amundsen House at 810 8th St. in downtown Anchorage was an Alaskan territorial days landmark that transitioned through numerous owners and businesses, but has been vacant and boarded since a fire last year. A backhoe and supporting crew from Alaska Demolitions tore down the two-story structure on May 30.
Anchorage to host exhibit honoring fallen soldiers
The "Eyes of Freedom" memorial exhibit, featuring the poignant "Silent Battle" sculpture, will visit Anchorage in July 2024 to honor the memory of Lance Cpl Grant Fraser, a fallen Marine of the Marine Forces Reserve's 4th Reconnaissance Battalion. He was from Anchorage. This exhibit, which travels nationwide to honor fallen military personnel, will be displayed at three Anchorage locations:

Sassa Alexandria Dunn was born October of 1933 and given the Yupi'k name Amarchuli by her mom, Nanny Franklin, and dad, George Andrew. When she was just three years old Sassa's mom passed away and she was raised by her grandma. Sassa remembers having a beautiful childhood filled with laughter, stories and family.
