Pontiac was an innovator in engine performance. GM limited the GTO in 67 to a single 4 barrel carburetor and HP out put as they didn't want a close rival to the Corvette. Chevrolet "borrowed" Pontiac's head design engineers to help them build better flowing heads for them. Just trivia from all the Muscle Car mags I read years ago.
