Limp mode is one of several conditions, signaled by your check engine light being on. It means one of your engine’s many sensors has failed and you are now running in open loop mode. Performance and fuel economy will suffer, but limp mode allows you to continue driving because your engine will now use a static table rather than dynamic input from all your sensors. Simple, huh?
