Over the past 18 years, our next guest worked with about 50 undergraduates to explore what he describes as one of the most fundamental chemical conundrums: how life emerged from a mixture of organic molecules in a lifeless environment. That research resulted in a patent being awarded, a company being formed, and recently, a 2024 South Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Research. Blazing a new trail, Saluda Grade line moves closer to development
SPARTANBURG COUNTY — Developing the Saluda Rail Trail moved a step closer with the project recently getting more grant funding. Norfolk Southern agreed in February 2023 to sell its abandoned line to The Saluda Grade Trail Conservancy. Legislatures from South Carolina and North Carolina have committed a combined $27 million for the project. Now, the project has been awarded a $450,000 federal grant from the Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies.
Investigators: Employee stabbed at Miracle Hill facility, person upset with being evicted
A Miracle Hill employee was stabbed in the stomach by a woman evicted from the property, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. According to Lt. Ryan Flood with the GCSO, a violent crime investigator with the GCSO arrested Michelle Silva Perez, 36, for stabbing an employee in the stomach at the Miracle Hill Shepard’s Gate shelter on 11 Regency Drive in Greenville.

French Broad River MPO Metropolitan Transportation Plan seeking public comment
The French Broad River MPO's Metropolitan Transportation Plan, Elevate 2050, will be kicking off the first phase of public input opportunities for the plan in August. The MTP is a federally-required transportation plan for urbanized areas with a population over 50,000 and helps to guide transportation decision-making and multimodal priorities for the region. The plan is scoped to include four phases of public input over roughly the next year. The first phase is focused on developing a Vision & Goals for the region. The Vision & Goals that are developed will be used to help evaluate potential transportation projects for inclusion in the plan, so public input is greatly encouraged.
