The Slater City Council heard a presentation from Evergy regarding a proposal to build a solar farm in the city limits during its meeting on Tuesday, July 16.

Evergy Senior Business Development Manager Lindsay Freeman spoke to the council about the benefits of setting up a solar farm in the city.

Freeman also went through a preliminary design of the farm, which would be about ten acres in size, as well as a preliminary timeline and the expected costs that come with constructing the plant. The plans show the farm being built on land behind the Clarcor Inc warehouse in Slater.

This was only a presentation and the council made no decision regarding the proposal.

In other news, the council reviewed a bid to set up security cameras at the city park. The bid came in at $16,814, which included the cost of the cameras and setting up an internet connection for them as well. The council didn’t make a decision regarding the bids and will continue the discussion at its next meeting.
