LUBBOCK, Texas — Stacey and Jehaav Saahir lost everything in a house fire Friday night while their grandkids were visiting.

While everyone made it out of the home just in time, the home and everything in it, including a new litter puppies were burnt to the ground.

Stacey was in Lubbock when she got the call from her husband that their house was on fire.

“When I got to that corner by the park my legs actually gave out because of the flames that I saw… I couldn’t believe it looked like the whole block was on fire,” Stacey said.

Inside the burning home were Jehaav and their three grandchildren. Jehaav said one of the grandkids and the smoke alarms caught his attention, and when he opened the door the smoke had already begun filling the house.

“When I opened that door smoking fire just shot up on me,” Jehaav said.

Jehaav said he noticed a mattress had flames on it and dragged it out to try to put it out. But when he went back in, it was too late. The fire had spread from one room through the whole home, and Jehaav knew it would only get worse.

Jehaav’s workshop also caught fire with all his tools and hardware supplies.

“I knew I had propane tanks and a storage house back [there]. I was trying to tell the police women that they were in there so she said she knew it and by that time, firecrackers went to going up and tires went to busting on my truck and then went to explode,” Jahaav said.

Stacey said there were so many neighbors, community members and businesses who offered to help their family. She said she has received nonstop calls from those looking to help, which is overwhelming in the best way.

From donating clothes and meals to furniture and a place to stay, Stacey said their family is and always will be eternally grateful for those who have helped them as they rebuild their home and their lives.

“I mean if I never seen the love of Jesus Christ that people, I see it this weekend,” Stacey said. “ I see how people pick me up when I couldn’t even walk they pick me up and put me on the golf cart. They don’t even know me, so strangers are becoming now family and friends in Slaton, Texas.”

Jehaav said their family plans to rebuild on their land where they’ve been since 2017.
