The far-right fuss over voter rolls isn’t about election integrity. It’s an effort to suppress.
If you’re to believe the far right, our voter rolls face constant peril from the threat of ill-willed hackers, nefarious foreign conspirators and evil villains that make James Bond’s various nemeses look like Teletubbies. I could argue that Teletubbies are actually evil in their own way, but the point is that Republican leaders from Congress […] The post The far-right fuss over voter rolls isn’t about election integrity. New rules for ballot return in three states with Republican trifectas among changes to absentee/mail-in voting
Three states with Republican trifectas added new definitions of who may return another voter’s ballot in 2024. Idaho adopted H 599, which stipulates that only election officials, postal workers, common carrier employees, a person paid by the voter, a relative of the voter, a member of their household, or a caregiver may collect or deliver another voter’s voted or unvoted ballot. It also provides that collecting and delivering more than 10 absentee/mail-in ballots is a felony.
High insurance premiums affect home-buying decisions
Earlier this year, CNBC reported that 31 percent of Gen Z can’t afford to buy or rent, and 2023 was the least affordable home buying year in more than a decade. In Southwest Louisiana, high interest rates and inflation aren’t the only thing keeping young adults living at home and hampering the real estate market. […]

Summer means outdoor theatre, and Wakefield's Contemporary Theatre Company (CTC) takes full advantage of the season to mount a delicious, disarmingly simple production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night under the stars. No sets, just a solid cast, crisply directed by Michael Alper. It's an enchanting summer treat on the CTC's patio stage.

USC football opener against LSU gains more attention as Week 1 gets closer
How important is the LSU game to USC’s season? The College Football Playoff math becomes much more favorable if the Trojans can beat LSU in Las Vegas in Week 1. The big point to remember about the shift to a 12-team College Football Playoff in 2024 is that if a team can go 10-2, that should be enough to make the playoff from the Big Ten or the SEC. Teams from one of the toughest conferences in the country can now lose twice and still have decent odds of making the playoff. In the four-team playoff era, USC or any other team from the Pac-12 needed to go 12-1 in 13 games to have a good chance of making the playoff. Pac-12 teams with two losses simply did not get into the four-team playoff. It’s different now with USC facing a rough schedule in a 12-team playoff format. A 10-2 record will get the Trojans into the playoff. Therefore, if they beat LSU, the Trojans could go 9-2 in their remaining 11 games and still make the playoff. It really puts the LSU game into perspective.
