Ex-officer charged with rape of girl, 13
A Raleigh man who worked in law enforcement in the Jackson metro area is behind bars after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old girl. Rodney Jernigan — who was working for the Reservoir Police Department in Rankin County — was charged with statutory rape, Smith County Sheriff Joel Houston said. The 26-year-old was arrested Monday at a Raleigh residence near his home.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office said it has charged Reservoir Police Officer Rodney Jernigan with statutory rape involving a 13-year-old girl. Smith County Sheriff Joel Houston issued a Tuesday statement saying the sheriff's office received a "complaint from a concerned parent" about a possible inappropriate relationship between a teenager and an adult male.

Emergency hospital opening in Smith County
RALEIGH, Miss. (WDAM) - Covington County Hospital and South Central Regional Medical Center will be collaborating to open the Smith County Emergency Hospital. The new rural emergency hospital is expected to begin operations in late December 2024 or early January 2025. The hospital will be located at 347 Magnolia Drive in Raleigh.
