In the quiet aftermath of Tropical Storm Beryl, most of Tyler breathed a collective sigh of relief. While the storm threatened with fierce winds and torrential rain, the damage was thankfully minimal in Smith County. Dallas man gets probation for stolen car chase through East Texas
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A Dallas man got a probation sentence Monday morning for his involvement in a 2023 chase through East Texas in a stolen car. Everl Cardenas-Villanueva, 23, was one of three men arrested on Oct. 16 in Smith County. Cardenas-Villanueva was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, unlawful use of criminal instrument, evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and possession of marijuana <2 ounces. He pleaded guilty to the evading charge in Judge Kerry L. Russell’s court on June 10, and was given five years’ probation with 160 hours of community service during his Monday sentencing hearing.
GoFundMe started to help family of East Texas 19-year-old killed in shooting
TYLER, Texas — A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of 19-year-old Rawly "Eli" Sanchez who was fatally shot in the back of the head in Smith County last week. Sanchez was shot while the backseat of a truck that was making a U-turn behind a Smith County business on the night of July 4. Seferino Bautista-Renteria, 35, the owner of Bautista Auto Sales, is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Sanchez, according to documents.
911 phone lines down in multiple East Texas locations
EAST TEXAS — Tyler Police Department 911 phone lines are down, according to a press release early Tuesday morning. Verizon has reportedly advised they have experienced outages due to recent storms. Smith County dispatch will be answering 911calls from within the city limits. Alt numbers are 903-939-6001 or 903-566-6600.
