Local minor arrested for string of bomb threats
SMITH COUNTY – According to our news partner KETK, a Collin County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) investigation has led to a Smith County minor being arrested in connection to multiple bomb threats made to East Texas Brookshire’s stores and other locations nationwide. The suspect was also reportedly linked to bomb threats at schools in the Tyler area, Cy-Fairbanks ISD near Houston and Mission ISD. The suspect’s activities also reportedly spanned across Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin. The CCSO said investigators identified over 100 locations targeted by the hoaxes. The investigation was assisted by the Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
FEMA extends deadline for East Texas residents applying for federal storm recovery assistance
TYLER, Texas — The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the deadline to apply for storm recovery assistance has been extended. Those who live in three East Texas counties, including Smith, Van Zandt and Henderson, are able to apply for help regarding uninsured losses from the storms and flooding that happened April 26 through June 5. The new deadline is now Aug. 15.

Charges are pending after the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant in Smith County on Sunday. The search led to the identification of a juvenile suspect authorities say was behind “numerous bomb threats and swatting hoaxes across multiple states,” according to Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner.
