Lemont Will Continue to Have Fixed-Route Bus Service Along with New CATAGo Zone
Fixed-route bus service through Lemont will continue after all, albeit at a reduced schedule. The Centre Area Transportation Authority launched a pilot CATAGo on-demand microstransit zone serving Lemont and Houserville on July 1 and initially planned to eliminate Lemont from the College Connector fixed-route bus line with the start of the fall service schedule in August. On Thursday, however, CATA announced that in addition to the new CATAGo zone, the College Connector will continue to serve Lemont until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at a frequency of 54 minutes. It currently operates in Lemont seven days a week until after 11 p.m....

The Friends of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library presented checks totaling $9,300 to HAPL Library Director Kevin Yoder (center) at the June 17 meeting of the library’s board of directors. Shown are Friends President Carol Scarbro (left) and Andrea Bolan, Friends representative to the board. The Friends hold used book sales, a trivia party, maintain a used bookstore at the library and hold other events to raise money for the library. Monthly meetings of the Friends are held during the year except for July and August. Anyone interested in joining the Friends can contact the library at 814-695-5961. Dues are $10 per year.

Celebrating 100 years of joy
The historic carousel at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park turned 100 years old this year. Manufactured in 1924 by Spillman Engineering Corporation in North Tonawanda, New York, the ride features 36 hand-carved and hand-painted jumping horses and two chariots. In celebration of the 100-year anniversary and in conjunction of National Carousel Day on Thursday, July 25, the public was welcomed to take free rides, enjoying the nostalgia of this classic ride. The DelGrosso’s carousel is one of the under 30 remaining in Pennsylvania and of the under 70 remaining in the U.S.
