A 54-year-old Dover man died Tuesday afternoon after his motorcycle was hit by a car near Smyrna, according to Delaware State Police.

His name will be released once his family is notified.

Police said the 54-year-old was riding a 2002 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle south in the left lane of Route 13 approaching the on-ramp to Route 1 north at 2:02 p.m. At the same time, a 2017 Toyota Camry was heading north on Route 13.

The Toyota turned left onto the on-ramp to Route 1 as the Yamaha entered the intersection, according to police, and the front of the car hit the motorcycle. The 54-year-old was thrown off the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old woman from Bear, was not injured.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. P. McAndrew at 302-365-8486 or contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
