    Claim:

Italian boxer Angela Carini will get another chance to fight in the Paris Olympics ring because her first fight against Algerian Imane Khelif was "unfair."

    Rating:

Labeled Satire ( About this rating? )

A rumor that Italian boxer Angela Carini would get another chance to spar in the 2024 Paris Olympics, after losing her match to Algerian opponent Imane Khelif, circulated widely online.

For example, in August 2024, Facebook page America's Last Line Of Defense posted a photograph with the headline and caption:

Italian Boxer Angela Carini Will Get Another Chance: "Her First Fight was Unfair"

Great decision by the Olympic Boxing Committee.

"Ms. Carini deserves another shot on an even playing field."

Her opponent hasn't been named yet but it won't be the Algerian she faced last time.

(Facebook user "America's Last Line Of Defense")

Some readers seemed to interpret the rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. However, there was no evidence or actual news reports of Carini getting another chance to fight in the Olympics. Per the Olympics website , Carini has no more upcoming games after her loss to Khelif.

Rather, the rumor about Carini's new chance to fight in Paris originated with a Facebook page that describes its output as being humorous or satirical in nature. The Facebook bio is labeled as "Satire/Parody."

The page is linked to The Dunning Kruger Times, a satirical website. Its About Page states:

Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the "America's Last Line of Defense" network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it before they lost their war on satire: Junk News

Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real. If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined. Any similarities between this site's pure fantasy and actual people, places, and events are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and satirical. See above if you're still having an issue with that satire thing.

The fictional story spread after Khelif's gender identity became a subject of debate following her unusual victory in a bout of the women's welterweight boxing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which ended in less than a minute when Carini suddenly pulled out of the fight. Following the incident, a number of anti-trans activists alleged the fight had been unfair because Khelif is transgender. These allegations were false, as Snopes has reported .

America's Last Line of Defense has a history of making up stories for shares and comments.

Snopes has addressed similar satirical claims from the same Facebook page in the past, including the assertion that WNBA player Caitlin Clark turned down a $1 million offer to appear on an episode of "The View."

For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
