PONGO POETRY | Trying to Change
Pongo Poetry Project’s mission is to engage youth in writing poetry to inspire healing and growth. In the spring of 2022, Pongo began mentoring poetry with young people at the Echo Glen Children’s Center, a juvenile institution for youth serving criminal sentences. Studies of incarcerated youth indicate that up to 70% suffer from a mental health disorder and that many have experienced childhood trauma. The isolation, economic upheaval, and turmoil of the last two years have only exacerbated this issue. The Moose is Loose: Mariners prospect Michael Morales finds his stride
The Mariners made a splash move in the 2024 draft, taking high school pitcher Ryan Sloan with their second-round pick, 55th overall. Sloan comes with all the bona fides you’d want to see in an early-round high school draft pick: he’s got a high-octane fastball, he’s built like a walk-in refrigerator, and he seems almost blissfully ignorant of the talent he’s been granted in his right arm (witness him talking about discovering his late-fade changeup like he found a dollar on the street).

First off, this is not an article that is going to trash Colin Cowherd. Is he a highly paid talking head who gets a lot of notoriety when he says salacious tidbits? Yes, of course, and he had made a good living doing that. Truth is how you want to spin it. We have learned that if a person says something often enough, in the end that becomes some kind of truth.

World Stage, Local Pride in the Pacific Northwest
First published in the New York Times, April 23, 2007. SEATTLE, April 21 — “It’s great to be home,” Trisha Brown said at the start of a pre-performance talk. Ms. Brown has been a leading light of New York postmodern dance since the 1960s, but the “home” she meant was Washington State, where she grew up. When you consider that Merce Cunningham, Robert Joffrey and Mark Morris were also born here, and first studied dance here, you can’t help wondering if some dance-friendly ingredient flows in the air. You wonder the same again when you recall that Seattle’s Pacific Northwest Ballet has been among America’s foremost ballet companies since the 1980s, reaching international stature in the 1990s.
