In a non-conference battle of two of the best baseball teams in the area on Wednesday, Greene Central broke a 3-3 tie with South Central with a single tally in the sixth inning and held on for a 4-3 win in the Pitt County Classic.

The Falcons (9-2) emerged from the first inning with a 2-1 lead, but the Rams (11-0) rallied and took a 3-2 edge in the fourth, only to have the game knotted with an SC run in the fifth.

It was a total team effort for Greene Central, which had no extra-base hits and no player with more than one hit. Riley Radford, Easton Creech and Will Radford had RBIs for the Rams, and Braden Burress continued to dominate on the mound with 10 strikeouts versus a single walk and four hits yielded over 6.1 innings.

GC hosts Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday, while SC hosts Pine Forest on Saturday.

    D.H. Conley 7, Stow-Munroe Falls 3

D.H. Conley managed to get its game in before the rain took over eastern North Carolina on Wednesday morning, and the Vikings chalked up their ninth win of the season in the Pitt County Classic.

The Vikes (9-1) overcame an eventful first inning that saw Stow-Munroe Falls (0-5) leading 3-2, scoring five unanswered after that for the win.

Riley Williams blasted a home run and drove in three while Davis Bradley also went deep and drove in two as part of a two-hit outing. Jacob Scott had two hits including a double and Ethan Medhus notched two hits and an RBI. Williams and Riley Treadway combined for nine strikeouts on the mound.

Conley hosts New Hanover on Monday.

    J.H. Rose 8, Corinth Holders 2

The Rampants also jumped to a perfect 11-0 on Wednesday in the Classic before the rain, scoring five times in the first inning and leading 8-0 before the Pirates scored two harmless runs in the seventh.

Rose had nine hits to Corinth Holders’ four.

The Rampants are set to face George Washington (Charleston, WVa.) on Friday.

    Farmville Central 8, J.H. Rose 2

The Jaguars (8-2) opened the Abby Foster Easter Tournament with a big win over Rose on Wednesday, riding a key five-run second inning to the finish line while also cashing in on five Rampant errors.

Two of the Jags’ hits went for extra bases as Hannah Sugg doubled and drove in two runs and Laycie Eastwood also laced a double and drove in two. Haleigh Long and Corri Houston notched two hits each in the win, and Paris Davis earned the pitching victory.

Amira Abulatifa roped a pair of doubles to lead Rose (4-6), which also got two-hit games from Kaleigh Wahlen and Jameson Padrick.

Farmville was scheduled to play Spring Creek on Thursday while Rose was set to face North Pitt.

Spring Creek 3, North Pitt 2

The Gators grabbed a one-run victory over the Panthers at the Abby Foster tourney hosted by Farmville Central on Wednesday, scoring the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh after North Pitt tied it 2-2 in the sixth.

North Pitt (5-5) was scheduled to play J.H. Rose on Wednesday, weather and field conditions permitting.
