And by snowboard, we mean pow surfer. If you have never heard of a pow surfer, it is a snowboard shaped board that does not have any bindings and is intended to float above the powder similar to how surfing may be. It was invented in Japan in the 1980s.

There is a Swedish brand called Papersurf founded by photographer and co-founder of Swedish audio tech company Zound Industries.

The snowsurfs were built by PaperShell, a Stockholm-based startup that has developed a way to turn paper waste into a durable, high-tech composite it calls “wood metal.”

PaperShell’s wood metal offers a versatile alternative to high-impact materials such as aluminium, fibreglass, and plastics. It can exhibit a smooth, matte, or textured finish and can be shaped into flat, curved, or spherical forms.

This innovative material is heat resistant, waterproof, strong, and lighter than fibreglass. Its applications span from furniture and car panels to electronics, building facades, skateboards, and, as demonstrated, pow surfers.
