Kin Shriner has had many great scene partners on General Hospital over the years, but there’s a special kind of fire when he and Maura West appear together. The two have been friends for decades, and that real-life connection shines through in their scenes.

    Gushed Over Working With West

From 2004 to 2006, Kin Shriner appeared as Keith Morrissey on As The World Turns, where he met Maura West, who played Carly Tenney for 15 years from 1995 to 2010. The two became good friends in real life, and according to Soaps, they had amazing chemistry.

That chemistry continues today on GH with Shriner’s Scotty and West’s Ava chewing up the scenery whenever they’re together. Scotty’s hilarious antics have been the perfect foil to Ava’s dark ways, and Shriner took to X, formerly Twitter, to retweet a video of their characters and captioned it, “I love speaking to her character!!” The video was posted by the show’s official page, with the tagline, “WATCH: Ava strategizes with Scotty in an effort to find anyone who will speak to her character… and against Sonny’s. #GH” (Learn more about Shriner’s 45 years on GH!)

Ava is preparing to fight Sonny (Maurice Benard) for custody of their daughter, Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola), but she’s pretty much burnt all of her bridges in Port Charles, with not a friend in sight. The scene was hilarious as Scotty stated, “Okay, Ava. This is gonna come down to character witnesses. And we need all the luck we can get.”

She mentioned that both she and Sonny have questionable pasts and pointed out that he runs a criminal organization. Scotty asked if she had proof, and when she replied, “Maybe,” he asked, “Proof that won’t get you killed?” Watching Scotty struggle to find someone, anyone, who would speak on Ava’s behalf was hysterical.

    Real-World Friendship Helps Scenes Together

Shriner explained to Soap Opera Digest in May 2019 about how he and West did a few scenes together on ATWT, remarking, “I just thought she was the greatest.” He explained that when she was hired for GH, he went to executive producer Frank Valentini and asked, “If you don’t know what to do with her, you could throw her my way.”

While they had different plans for Ava, Shriner took what he could get, stating, “So when I get to work with Maura, [it’s] another highlight of the day.” In October 2021, Shriner told Soaps in Depth, “When I look at my script and see that I’ve got a scene with Ava Jerome, I know this is going to be fun. Maura West gets a chance to show some of her comedic skills, and I certainly enjoy those scenes,” and fans have lobbied for the two to have a romance for quite a long time.

Later, in March 2023, West tweeted a pic of her and Shriner together, writing, “Love you, Kin! A GREAT scene partner…always looking out for me and making me look good! You make me happy!!”

The love fest continues to this day as West tweeted on July 12, “I love Scotty/Ava scenes! Thank you, Kin, for being a joyful and supportive scene partner… I💜U.”

We enjoy watching these two together and our fingers are crossed for more Ava and Scotty scenes as her court battle heats up!
