It’s not uncommon for actors to bring home emotional baggage from the characters they play, but for General Hospital’s Maurice Benard, something completely unexpected happened. While performing his fatherly duties with his son Joshua, Benard was a bundle of nerves, and that manifested in a way that seemed very close to the character he plays on the show.

    Joshua Driving Terrifies His Dad

GH star Maurice Benard — who’s played mafia don Sonny for over 30 years — shared a video of him and his son, Joshua Benard, on X, formerly Twitter, where the young man was driving with dad in the passenger seat. “This is Joshua’s first time…” the elder Benard began, then caught and corrected himself, saying, “Well, it’s not his first time driving, but he just got his license, and I’m scared out of my head.”

He cut off his last word to tell his son to let another driver “go,” although we couldn’t see what the other vehicle was doing. As they came to a stop, Benard lost his patience, and his GH alter ego Sonny Corinthos came to the surface as he angrily yelled, “Come on, Dude!” (Learn about Sonny’s latest GH breakdown.)

Apparently, Sonny Corinthos Has Road Rage

He then yelled, “Hey, what are you doing?!?” and told Joshua the other driver was almost backing into them. When the younger man started to ask if he should do something, Benard again snapped, “No, you stay right here. ” In his gravelly Sonny voice (when he really means business), he reiterated, “Stay right here,” then quietly stated, “Sonny’s here,” causing us to breathe a sigh of relief that everything would now be fine.

Benard then started to instruct his son where to go next and how to make a U-turn, and at that point, the video ended. One follower hilariously referenced Massachusetts drivers — who have an alleged reputation for displaying road rage — and responded, “Sonny’s here!!! Mr. Bernard, are you secretly from Boston? (We love this) Also, Joshua…you’ve got this. Congratulations on the license❤️.” (Find out how Joshua channels anxiety through art.)
