Billy Flynn’s Chad DiMera has had his head spinning lately on Days of Our Lives, with the revelation that his dead wife Abigail is actually alive. It turns out that she’s a fake Abigail who’s been forced to get close to him by Clyde. With this outlandish story going on, Flynn had to kick his acting chops into high gear. He recently disclosed the most important lesson he learned from his years of acting.

    Authenticity Is Key

Digital Journal reported on a fan event called Spectrum Celebrity Events, in which Flynn was a guest. When asked what the most important lesson he learned from acting is, he explained, “It has taught me the importance of being authentic.” He stated that being genuine and also feeling that way while playing a character was important to make the audience believe what he’s selling.

Flynn has been playing Chad since 2014 and remarked that he made being authentic a part of who he is as an actor. “Luckily, over time, you develop enough of a craft to fake it until you make it, for example,” he explained, adding, “For me, if you are genuine, you are going to have a genuine reaction to things.”

    You Are Enough

Flynn also likes to remain spontaneous for his scenes, so he doesn’t overdo it when he’s preparing to perform. He believes that the audience will lose interest if they sense that he, as an actor, is not committed to making the character come across as believable and genuine.

His takeaway from being authentic is that “You are enough.” He further clarified that when approaching a scene, he brings his full self and his belief that he is Chad in those moments, which is more than sufficient for being believable in a story. So, no matter how outlandish the storyline may seem, he will give it his all and ensure that the viewers are right there with him, feeling what he feels.

According to Popular Lives, Flynn continues pursuing projects outside of DAYS, both in front and behind the camera. He takes that lesson of authenticity with him to anything he works on.
