Fans of Nicholas Chavez (ex-Spencer, General Hospital) will be able to see him back on their TV screens very soon! While the bad news is that the Daytime Emmy winner is not returning to the soap opera, he will be seen in producer Ryan Murphy’s upcoming horror drama series, Grotesquerie!

The 10-episode first season of the show is scheduled to debut on cable network FX on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and stream the next day on Hulu. In addition to Chavez, the ensemble cast includes Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Raven Goodwin, and NFL star Travis Kelce.

Sharing the key art for his new primetime series, Chavez teased that the show is the stuff that bad dreams are made of! “Nightmare fuel loading,” he wrote.

According to a description for the show, when a series of heinous crimes unsettles a small community, Detective Lois Tryon (Nash-Betts) feels these crimes are eerily personal. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan (Diamond), a nun and journalist with her own difficult past. Sister Megan has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As the two string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.

Chavez is playing the character of Father Charlie, presumably a colleague of Sister Megan’s. Grotesquerie is not the first time the actor has worked with Murphy, the prolific producer behind FX’s American Horror Story franchise and others. Back in June 2023, Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez for the second season of Murphy’s Netflix anthology series Monsters. Production on Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story began earlier this year, at which time Chavez took a leave of absence from GH. By April, however, rumors were swirling that the actor would not be returning to the soap, and Chavez confirmed in May that his time in Port Charles was over.

“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that GH gave me,” he shared on Twitter/X at the time, “and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors, and fellow actors. [Executive producer] Frank Valentini is a mentor and a friend, and we’ve had some pretty extensive conversations about my future on the show. While there are no current plans for me to return, we are still talking very openly about future possibilities for Spencer in Port Charles.”

Hopefully, Chavez will keep that door open and one day return to the soap. But in the meantime, we can’t wait to see what he brings to the screen as Father Charlie!
