It has been a period of transition for General Hospital star Cameron Mathison (Drew) recently. While keeping busy with his work on the soap as well as other gigs, the actor has also been dealing with some very personal heartache. Still, he’s keeping a positive outlook as he faces the future.

“With the right mindset and guidance… pain, grief, confusion, fear, and disbelief… can all be our best teachers,” Mathison shared on Instagram . “Grateful for all the beautiful things in my life, as well as for the challenges and difficulties.

“I don’t know what this next chapter holds for me,” he continued, “but I’m approaching it with gratitude, acceptance, and the determination to be positive and benefit others every chance I get.”

Mathison, who got his big break playing Ryan on All My Children from 1997-2011, joined the cast of GH in August 2021 and has continued to moonlight in television movies for Hallmark and Great American Family. Recently, he also hosted Beat the Bridge for the Game Show Network and is starring in the upcoming GAF holiday movie Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells opposite Candace Cameron Bure.

Unfortunately, in July Mathison mourned the death of his AMC co-star and friend Esta TerBlanche, who he called “ one of the sweetest people ever .” And in July, shortly after their 22nd wedding anniversary, Mathison and his wife, Vanessa, announced that they were splitting up . “We remain friends,” they said at the time, “and both wish the best for one another.”

Mathison has always tried to maintain a positive attitude, even when he was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma and underwent surgery to remove a tumor on his kidney. And in April, five years after the procedure, he reported that a recent scan showed “ I’m all clear and super, super grateful .”

Whatever this next chapter holds for Mathison, we’ve no doubt he’ll handle it with the same strength and positivity.
