Kate Mansi Opens up about the Powerful Drama on GH

The drama on General Hospital has been pretty intense recently, especially between Kristina and Molly. After Kristina’s fall caused the death of the baby she was carrying for Molly and TJ, the sisters have had more than a few heated confrontations. And for Kate Mansi , it can be difficult to leave Kristina’s emotions at the studio.

“Kristina not only lost her baby,” Mansi told Woman’s World , “but almost her own life, fell out of a five-story freaking window, and almost went to jail. So my fiancé, my friends, my family, everybody knows: Don’t ask me or talk to me about anything until I can come up for air. I scale back on my social plans during these times and use my weekends to gather my energy so I can go back in for battle, essentially.”

It is also important that while Molly and Kristina are at odds, Mansi and co-star Kristen Vaganos don’t bring those feelings into their personal and working relationships. “Our characters have done this thing where we make a pinky promise and say, ‘No backsies,’” Mansi said. “So now, before we have intense scenes, we always do our little pinky shake and give each other a hug. It’s such a gift when you have a lot of love and admiration for the person that you’re fighting and screaming at for weeks on end. It lends itself to a more layered performance, and also feels like you have a partner.”

While fans may be taking sides regarding the Kristina and Molly feud, the one thing that all GH viewers can agree on is that as painful as the storyline may be, the performances have been Emmy-worthy throughout. “It’s a real joy to watch the way this storyline is bringing out the best in all of us,” Mansi declared. “We’ve seen such phenomenal work from Nancy [Lee Grahn, Alexis] throughout this, and from Mo [Benard, Sonny], too. And it’s such a tribute to the writers that some scenes have just taken us by storm because they’re so beautifully written.”

With reconciliation between Kristina and Molly looking like it’s quite a ways off, fans can look forward to many more powerful performances and heartbreaking drama to come!
