Sharon Case Previews Her Y&R Anniversary Episode!

The timing of Sharon’s unraveling on The Young & The Restless is no coincidence. Neither is her desire to get revenge on Daniel for having caused the accident that claimed young Cassie’s life all those years ago. It’s all leading up to a special Sharon-centric episode celebrating portrayer Sharon Case ’s 30 ^th anniversary playing the beleaguered Genoa City heroine!

Case, who made her debut on the soap in September 1994, admitted to Soaps.SheKnows.com that her initial reaction to seeing the script for the episode was disbelief. “How am I going to do this?!?” she said was the first thing that ran through her mind.

While the actress was featured in a Sharon-themed dream episode last year, she wasn’t carrying the lion’s share alone. (Not that we doubt for a second that the Emmy winner would have a problem doing so!) “It was almost a little scary,” she said of her upcoming anniversary show, slated to air Friday, September 27. “There were a lot of other cast members involved in the dream episode. This one is pretty much just Sharon. I saw the script and realized, ‘I’m on every page!’”

Sometimes when Y&R does these special episodes centered around a specific character, they are independent from the ongoing storyline. However in this instance, Case noted that her episode is “very connected” to what has been unfolding the past few weeks: Cameron, acting as Sharon’s subconscious, has been terrorizing her ever since Faith and Lucy were involved in a car accident. The crash brought back painful memories for Sharon of how Lucy’s father, Daniel, was responsible for the death of her daughter, Cassie, leading to Cameron goading her to seek revenge.

As Y&R headwriter Josh Griffith told Soap Opera Digest , “Sharon feels tremendous pain… and tremendous guilt over Cassie’s death so the voice in her psyche telling her to get justice for Cassie’s death makes sense.”

The scribe teased that what happens next will further connect Sharon to Daniel’s family — including her rival, his mother Phyllis. “The years of hurt feelings and anger between these characters will reach a boiling point and take everyone on an unexpected ride,” said Griffith.

Case’s anniversary episode is one that viewers won’t want to miss, according to Griffith. “Sharon’s work in her standalone episode is outstanding and a true showcase of why both Sharon Case and Sharon Collins Newman have been such an important character on Y&R for three decades,” he praised.
