Today is the day that General Hospital star Tabyana Ali (Trina) has been looking forward to: Her new movie, Empire Waist , is now in theaters!

From writer and director Claire Ayoub, Empire Waist is a charming comedy about teens learning to love their bodies through fashion. Lenore (Mia Kaplan) is a plus-size teenager deeply insecure about her weight. The movie’s synopsis reads: Hiding her passion for fashion design, she tries to make herself invisible in her day-to-day life to avoid being bullied by her classmates and image-conscious mother (Missi Pyle). Lenore’s father Mark (Rainn Wilson) is her biggest cheerleader, and her best friend Kayla (Jemima Yevu) is confident, funny, outgoing, and proud of her plus-sized body. Through their support, along with teacher Ms. Hall (Jolene Purdy), Lenore is encouraged to step outside her comfort zone and embrace her talent.

Ali plays one of Lenore’s classmates in the film, which explores the important themes of teen friendship, family dynamics, and body image. In a shared Instagram post with the movie’s official page, the excited GH star shared a video that included a clip from one of her scenes. “I play Honor in Empire Waist , and I can’t wait for you to see her character come to life September 27!” she cheered.

The movie’s team was extremely complimentary of Ali’s performance, praising the talented star in the post accompanying the video. “Watch General Hospital fave Tabyana Ali radiate joy as Honor in Empire Waist, in theaters Friday! A creative force, we adore her for her kindness, leadership, and incredible energy.”

Following the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Sept. 26, Ali took to her Instagram Stories to further share her thoughts about the special project. She shared a photo of the cast from the screening, writing, “Yesterday was so exciting! I feel like I could watch this movie 1,000 times. I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

“I’m so proud of everyone who was involved and helped out this beautiful movie together!” she added. “I really can’t praise this film enough. I’m so proud.”
