Over the past few weeks, former General Hospital star Nicholas Chavez (ex-Spencer) has been thrust into the spotlight as one of the hottest young actors to hit Hollywood. Of course, viewers of the soap have long known the Daytime Emmy winner was talented. But with the huge success of his new Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story from creator Ryan Murphy, the greater television-watching audience is taking notice of the young actor as well.

When Chavez initially parted ways with GH to film the Netflix series, he revealed that he was keeping the lines of communication open with executive producer Frank Valentini about “future possibilities” for him to return as Spencer. However, now that Chavez has been signed by top talent agency Creative Artists Agency, his soap fans have begun to wonder: Is he done with GH for good? Not necessarily, he told TV Line in a new interview posted to the site’s YouTube channel! “No, Port Charles is a crazy place. We’ll have to see what happens,” he confessed.

Chavez last aired on GH back in January, when Spencer fell into the Seine River while trying to protect girlfriend Trina from his crazy ex, Esme. The plot point was a vehicle to temporarily write him out of the soap so he could focus on the production of Monsters. However, that pause became a more permanent one when, before he was even done playing Lyle Menendez, Chavez was hired by Murphy to do a second series, Grotesquerie!

“We started talking about Grotesquerie on the back half of shooting Monsters,” explained Chavez, who plays Father Charlie on the FX horror drama that premiered on Sept. 25. “It was an opportunity to play in a world that is very, very different than the Menendez brothers. So yeah, I was really excited to jump on board.”

Although Chavez hasn’t revealed if he’s booked his next project, we’re sure that since all eyes seem to now be on him, it won’t be long before he’s got a new gig lined up. And if that means that, in the meantime, GH needs to carry on Spencer Cassadine’s story with another actor in the role, Chavez stands behind that decision. “Of course,” he said. “I understand that the show has needs and I would be fully supportive of that.”

Hopefully, since Chavez has not yet fully closed the door on Port Charles, there’s still a chance that his version of Spencer will return to town one day!

He made the Spencer part his own on GH. Might be tough to replace someone else into the character…. Unless they wait for awhile.
