SODA SPRINGS — A project to reconstruct Main Street in Soda Springs started on Monday and is expected to continue through October.

Alan Skinner, city engineer for Soda Springs, said the project will come in two parts. The first part was funded thanks to a grant for $1.5 million.

"We will replace the asphalt and the storm drain and redo the lights," Skinner said.

The second part of the project will be funded by the city itself. They will put in new water and sewer lines. They will also be connecting those service lines to all the buildings.

During the early stages of construction, the city will need to remove the asphalt on the west side of the road.

"There will be two-way traffic on the east side of the road, but there will be no parking on Main Street," Skinner said.

Skinner said they will need to remove the asphalt on the east side of the road eventually.

"We'll keep it (open) as long as possible," he said.

The city supports its local business owners and residents and wants to make Main Street safe for them. The city hopes that everyone will still be able to function through this project.

"We hope to make as little impact as possible," Skinner said.
