Springs of Soda field trip set for July 27

SODA SPRINGS — Field trips aren't just for kids.

They motivate people of all ages to continue educational learning while experiencing culture, art and history first-hand.

The Caribou Historical Society of Soda Springs has provided field trips to the community for the past few years.

Bill Horsley, a member of the historical society, is a big believer in the field trips as a means of keeping Caribou County's history alive.

With that goal in mind, Horsley will be hosting a free Springs of Soda Tour on July 27. The guided field trip will begin at the Historical Museum, 100 E. Hooper Ave. in Soda Springs, at 9:30 a.m. for a brief overview of the tour and some instruction before embarking at 10 a.m.

A number of the springs that will be visited on the field trip are on private property and are not normally open to the public.

The field trip is expected to finish by 1 p.m. Please bring a lunch and something to drink and of course, a beverage container so you can sample the spring water.

The day will finish up at Hooper Springs for a picnic lunch and time to discuss the field trip.

Horsley encourages participants to bring binoculars.

Everyone is invited to come on the field trip but all children need to be accompanied by adults.

This will be a very informative field trip about how the hundreds of springs in the Soda Springs area have changed over the years. Many of the springs have been lost to progress but many others still exist and flow today.

It will be a great opportunity to learn about an important aspect of Soda Springs' history.
