Somerset's Missing Link BBQ closing its doors. Here's what to know.

SOMERSET — Greater Fall River barbecue fans have been dealt another blow.

Missing Link BBQ announced this week will mark the end of the line for Somerset's most recognizable eatery, located inside the iconic train car along Route 6.

"It is with great sadness that we have to announce this, but after much deliberation and discussion, we have decided to close Missing Link BBQ," reads a post Monday, July 29, on their Facebook page.

The final day of business at the 938 Lees River Ave. spot will be Sunday, Aug. 4.

News from Somerset restaurant owners Doug Moniz and Tom Lyon came just over a month after the longtime Ed's Famous BBQ closed up shop on Brayton Avenue in Fall River.

And Missing Link's sudden departure — only eight months after opening the fully revamped train car — was met with plenty of shock and disappointment from customers via Facebook comments, expressing sadness at "losing a local gem."

"Unfortunately, we have been met with lots of obstacles that have led us to where we are today but we wouldn’t have gotten this far without all of you and your support," the post reads.

The dynamic duo of chef Lyon and manager Moniz, both Somerset residents, first launched their Missing Link food trailer on Route 6 in Dartmouth in July 2022, before making their way to Somerset in fall of 2022 .

After nearly a year of serving up Southern fare from its roadside trailer "Rosie" at the Lees River Avenue property, Missing Link welcomed folks aboard its unique indoor dining space in November 2023, when the Somerset barbecue train made its debut.

The train underwent a complete overhaul before its much-anticipated opening.

Folks hoping to get one last taste of Missing Link's Texas-style barbecue with a New England flair, or say farewell to the owners and to "Rosie," the beloved barbecue trailer that started it all, have through this weekend to stop in.

"We understand this is last minute, but unfortunately we don’t have the choice to stay open any longer,” states the post.

“We hope to see you before we go, but if we don’t get the chance, we just want to say thank you again for the last two years. We appreciate all of you."

Wondering what's happening with your order that's already been placed? No worries.

According to Missing Link's post, all catering orders that they had previously committed to this week will be fulfilled. Those with gift cards are encouraged to use them before the last day of service Sunday.
