SOMERSET ― Bingo won't be rolling for a while at a borough veterans club.

The VFW Post 554, Somerset, 139 W. Union St., has been placed under suspension for the immediate future.

The post was suspended for up to 90 days if it can't get reconciled to the Veterans of Foreign Wars rules and regulations to the letter, said District 26 Commander Dave Seymore. He said a four-member team of non-Somerset members came into town to assess Somerset's organization.

"Financially Somerset is in very good shape," Seymore said. The discrepancy is in reporting procedures, he added.

Seymore said once the VFW organization is satisfied with the reporting and procedures required showing Somerset's VFW is compliant, members will be sent letters by mail that a meeting will be held to nominate and elect a new board and officers.

The VFW Post 554 chartered its first members 100 years ago. Seymore said he hopes the suspension will be lifted before the 90-day deadline.
