    Firefighter critically injured in two-alarm house fire on East Cliff Street in Somerville

    SOMERVILLE – A firefighter was critically injured in a house fire on East Cliff Street Tuesday afternoon.

    Around 2:25 p.m. Somerville volunteer firefighters responded to a 3-story home on East Cliff Street on reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a single-family home with a fire on the second floor and heavy smoke on the second and third floors, authorities said.

    One firefighter suffered a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, according to police.

    Firefighters from Somerville, Raritan Borough, Finderne, Bound Brook, Green Knoll, Manville, Hillsborough, and Lyons responded to fight the blaze.

    The fire was put out in around one hour and the cause is currently under investigation.

    This is the second fire in downtown Somerville in the past month, the other damaging two restaurants on Main Street on June 4 .
