SOPHIA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Students and mentors with WVU Extension’s Energy Express program have been doing some exceptional work at the Ridgeview Elementary School site, teaming with Operation Underdog to bring much needed supplies to some furry friends throughout Raleigh County.

A six-week program for children ages K-6, Energy Express brings local children together with mentors to maintain comprehension skills and engage in efforts to improve the community. This along with a focus on art, writing, drama, and recreational activities help students to maintain a positive outlook and reinforce education during the summer months.

Participants in the program select a community project in which to engage to benefit the local area. The Energy Express team at the Ridgeview Elementary site in Sophia took the opportunity to contribute to Operation Underdog by preparing some tasty treats and assembling dog toys from discarded t-shirt materials. Also collected have been donations of food, bedding, cleaning supplies, and more for the animals served by Operation Underdog.

Based in Raleigh County area, Operation Underdog is active in efforts to improve the lives of local animals, including through the facilitating of donations to local shelters, assistance in fostering and adopting, and much more.

Energy Express is celebrating 30 years of community engagement, and will run this year from June 17, 2024, to July 26, 2024.
