Purple Line Transit Partners Announce Grant Winners for Community Development
Six local organizations have been chosen by Purple Line Transit Partners for the first round of Beyond the Rails community grants. Riverdale Park-based PLTP, the private-sector partner of the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line project, is the exclusive funder of the Beyond the Rails community grant program. PLTP, in partnership with MDOT MTA, sponsors the Beyond the Rails community grant program to give back to the communities where the Purple Line is being constructed and where it will operate for 30 years post-launch.
Metro’s Weekend Red Line Disruptions and Enhanced Ridership Data Portal
This weekend, on Saturday, Feb. 3, and Sunday, Feb. 4, Metro will conduct maintenance and track work, affecting the Red, Green, and Yellow lines. The Red Line will see free shuttle buses replacing trains between Dupont Circle and Van Ness stations, and the Cleveland Park and Woodley Park stations will be closed. For the Green and Yellow lines, trains will single track between Mount Vernon Square and L’Enfant Plaza.
Takoma Park Police Seek Suspects in Gunpoint Attempted Robbery
Two individuals attacked a man with a gun in an attempted robbery on January 28 in Takoma Park, according to police. Takoma Park Police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said that the incident took place at around 10:52 p.m. on January 28 in the 6300 block of Eastern Ave. The victim, who was heading to his residence, was confronted by two male suspects dressed in all black and wearing ski masks. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and tried to take the victim’s belongings by force. The victim resisted and was subsequently assaulted. The attempted armed robbery was interrupted by a witness, leading the two suspects to flee in a red sedan.

79-Year-Old Succumbs to Injuries from Silver Spring Crash
Thambiraj Nathaniel, 79, from Beltsville, died on Sunday due to injuries sustained in a two-car collision in Silver Spring last Tuesday, according to Montgomery County Police. MoCo360 reports that this marks the first traffic fatality reported by police in 2024. Zero Deaths Maryland, a part of the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, reported 44 traffic fatalities in 2023.
