28-Year-Old D.C. Man Charged With Murder, Child Abuse
Montgomery County Police say that they have arrested and charged a 28-year-old D.C. man in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son. Officers from the Third District and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue responded at approximately 4 a.m. March 11 to the 7900 block of Chicago Ave. in Silver Spring in response to a report that a child was not breathing. The child, Zavier Giron, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, MCPD said in a news release.

7-Eleven Theft Suspect Escapes Police Custody
Police in Takoma Park say that a theft suspect arrested at a 7-Eleven on Saturday night has escaped custody. Officers responded at approximately 11:28 p.m. on Saturday to the 7-Eleven on University Blvd. for a theft in progress, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy. The suspect was still in the establishment when officers arrived and was arrested without incident. The suspect was handcuffed and placed in the officer’s cruiser. While the officer was investigating the incident, the suspect escaped from the marked patrol vehicle and fled on foot.

The County Council appointed Artie L. Harris Jr. as Planning Board chair and Josh Linden as commissioner, rounding out the five-person board at its Tuesday meeting. Fire Officials: Motorized Wheelchair Malfunction Likely Cause of Fire at Alexander House Apartments
A fire at an apartment in downtown Silver Spring early Friday morning may have been caused by a motorized wheelchair malfunction, according to fire officials. Firefighters responded to a fire just after 12:30 a.m. Friday at Alexander House Apartments in the 8500 block of 2nd Ave., according to county Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer. The apartment occupant was found in a wheelchair and suffering from significant burns. Their injuries were life-threatening and they were transported to a burn center for treatment.
