Downtown Silver Spring Car Theft: Suspects Caught on Camera Inside Planet Fitness
Montgomery County Police are asking for help identifying two suspects who stole a Toyota Corolla from outside Planet Fitness in downtown Silver Spring on April 10. On April 10th, at around 9:45 p.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to a report of an auto theft at Planet Fitness, located in the 1100 block of Wayne Ave. According to a press release, two women entered the gym’s locker room, took the victim’s car keys, and then stole a white 2015 Toyota Corolla with Maryland registration 4DZ5597 that was parked nearby.
Sweat for a Cause: Girls on the Run Summer Fitness Series Supports Local Youth Development
Girls on the Run of Montgomery County has launched a series of fitness events with Orangetheory Fitness, Urban Boxing, and another studio to be announced soon. Workouts led by professional instructors will take place on the second Saturday of June, July, and August and are suitable for individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of their fitness level. Proceeds from each event will support the Rockville-based nonprofit, which supports over 4,000 girls and provides financial assistance to more than 1,000 annually in Montgomery County.
Amalgamated Transit Union to Relocate Headquarters from Silver Spring to Dupont Circle in $13.8M Deal
The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) announced last week that it will move its headquarters from Silver Spring’s Hillandale neighborhood to Dupont Circle. The transit union, representing over 200,000 workers in the U.S. and Canada, purchased an eight-story building at 21 Dupont Circle NW near the Dupont Circle Metro station. It didn’t disclose the acquisition price, but deed records indicate it was $13.8 million, according to Bisnow.

There’s an ordinary two-story brick house on Gist Avenue in Silver Spring – but inside, this house is anything but ordinary. The Record Exchange at 8642 Colesville Rd. in downtown Silver Spring will permanently close on June 9. In an announcement posted on the shop’s Instagram account Monday afternoon, co-owner Brian France stated, “This was a difficult and heartbreaking decision, but we are unable to keep the doors open due to both financial and personal reasons.”

Double Homicide Near Nolte Local Park: MCPD, Park Police Launch Investigation
Two 20-year-old men were fatally shot Sunday evening near Nolte Local Park in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police. Officers arrived at the scene in the 500 block of Thayer Ave. just before 7 p.m. and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
