Double Homicide Near Nolte Local Park: MCPD, Park Police Launch Investigation
Two 20-year-old men were fatally shot Sunday evening near Nolte Local Park in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police. Officers arrived at the scene in the 500 block of Thayer Ave. just before 7 p.m. and discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Metro Red Line Shutdown: Shuttle Bus Routes and Transportation Alternatives
Summer construction on Metro’s Red Line will begin on Saturday, June 1, and continue through August 31 after months of preparation and planning. Summer Red Line Shutdown: Brookland-CUA Station Closed This Weekend
Metro announced Wednesday that the Brookland-CUA station will be closed this weekend, and Red Line service at Fort Totten will be suspended on Saturday and Sunday. Free shuttle buses will connect the closed stations between Takoma and Rhode Island Avenue; alternatively, Green Line service will remain available at Fort Totten. Passengers not traveling to or from the affected Red Line stations — Brookland-CUA or Fort Totten — should consider using the Green Line between Fort Totten and Gallery Place for connections to downtown DC and the Red Line.
Silver Spring Nonprofit Developer MHP Raises $15.8M to Expand Affordable Housing
MHP has launched a $20 million campaign to double the impact of its mission to expand and preserve affordable housing by 2030. The campaign’s motto, “Making Home Possible for All,” reflects the diverse array of individuals needing affordable housing options, including seniors, single adults, and working families with children, according to the Silver Spring-based nonprofit developer, which has raised 79 percent of its goal.
