Maryland Officials Release New Video of Purple Line Railcars
The Maryland Department of Transportation published a video last week showing Purple Line train cars en route to the area. The east-west line has 21 stations and covers a distance of 16.2 miles, connecting the New Carrollton Metro Station in Prince George’s County to the Bethesda Metro Station in Montgomery County and providing links to Metro, MARC, Amtrak, and local bus lines.
Police Seek Information in Unexplained Death Case
Detectives from the county’s Major Crimes Division are investigating a suspicious death and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Montgomery County Police reported that at approximately 1:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, officers from the 4th District responded to a call at an apartment in the 2600 block of Glenallan Ave. Upon arrival, they discovered an unconscious male, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Overnight Earthquake Felt in Silver Spring, Takoma Park
A minor earthquake rattled Rockville and was felt in communities as far as West Virginia overnight on Tuesday. NBC Washington reported that an earthquake occurred around 12:50 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.3, equivalent to the energy release of a bolt of lightning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake’s epicenter was near Lakewood Country Club in Rockville.

Three Suspects Sought in Takoma Park ATM Robbery
Police in Takoma Park need the public’s help to identify three suspects who committed an armed robbery at a Capital One Bank ATM on Friday evening. Takoma Park Police were called to the 1100 block of University Blvd around 6:26 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29 for an armed robbery. According to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy, the victim was robbed at gunpoint at the Capital One Bank ATM by three suspects. Following the robbery, the three suspects fled southbound on New Hampshire Ave. in a small white SUV, possibly a Chevy Traverse.

Early Childhood Education Center Prepares for Fall Opening
The construction of the Martha Gudelsky Child Development Center is progressing as planned, and the facility is scheduled to open next fall. Construction started last summer at the early childhood education center, which is situated at the former Silver Spring Library site on Colesville Rd. near downtown Silver Spring. Myrna Peralta, President and CEO of CentroNía, a nonprofit based in D.C. that will manage the facility, told MoCo360 that the renovations are progressing well, and are expected to finish in June.
