Police: Silver Spring Teen Missing Since June 10
Detectives from the county’s Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Silver Spring teen. 17-year-old Christopher Sanchez was last seen Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road, according to an MCPD news release. Sanchez stands approximately five feet, six inches tall, and weighs 125 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair, and a tattoo of a “$” behind his ear, the name “Catarina,” on his forearm, and the name “Karina,” on his chest. It is unknown what clothing he was last seen wearing.

Tropics Ice Cream & Jerk at 9324 Georgia Ave. has been closed for several days and may be permanent, according to several messages received by the Source. “I went there yesterday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. and the door was locked and the lights off,” reader Gary K. said. “A friend said that she’d been there a couple of times recently with the same result. The phone number listed 301-589-2138 does not answer, even with voicemail or an answering machine, but the line is not disconnected by the phone company. There is no sign posted in the window explaining. It is a much loved ice cream place, since it uses tropical fruit flavoring for many of its ice creams.”

Severn Woman Arrested for DUI, Hit-and-Run
Takoma Park Police say 46-year-old Jessica Delgadillo of Severn has been arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Hit-and-Run. Officers responded to a collision at approximately 1:09 a.m. Saturday in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Ave., where Delgadillo struck a patrol car’s driver’s side door and fled into Prince George’s County, according to police spokesperson Cathy Plevy. After locating Delgadillo, officers observed numerous indications that she may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Silver Spring native and Grammy-nominated music producer Richie Jones-Muhammad is competing in the latest season of the FOX television series MasterChef. Currently living in Long Beach, Calif., Jones-Muhammad grew up in Silver Spring and attended Montgomery County schools, where he credits his grandmother with instilling a love of cooking in him.
Officials: Kitchen Fire at Hotel Silver Spring Contained by Sprinklers
County fire officials say sprinklers controlled a kitchen fire at the Hotel Silver Spring on Saturday afternoon. A fire was reported at the Hotel Silver Spring at 8727 Colesville Rd. at approximately 1 p.m., according to county Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer. As firefighters arrived, there was little smoke left in the building, but the building was evacuated. The fire occurred in a kitchen on the first floor of the hotel and was completely contained by the sprinkler system.

Umami Ramen, Sushi & Dumplings is now open in the former home of City Taste at 930 Wayne Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. We reported in April that City Taste had been placed on the market for $1.59 Million in a now-deleted LoopNet listing. There was a lease option on the 1,691-square-foot space, and the property tax bill for 2022 was $11,100.25, which included water and building maintenance costs.

Commas to Open Later This Year, Nearly Fully Leased
The Commas food hall is expected to open later this year at or near full occupancy, according to an Ellsworth Place spokesperson. Police: Silver Spring Teen Missing Since June 8
Detectives from the county’s Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Silver Spring teen. 13-year-old Ramiro Vladimir Palacios was last seen at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, in the 1700 block of Hampshire Green Lane, according to a press release from Montgomery County Police. Ramiro is approximately five feet, eight inches tall, and weighs 140 pounds. Ramiro has black eyes and black hair and was last seen wearing a black shirt, black athletic pants, and black Nike sneakers.
Construction Underway at Solaire Social Food Hall
Construction is finally underway at the Solaire Social food hall in downtown Silver Spring. In April, we reported that the county’s Board of License Commissioners held a hearing on March 16 on the application for an alcohol license for the food hall at the Solaire 8200 Dixon apartment building, but little else seemed to have progressed. Since our last report, Springfield, Va.-based general contractor ADI Construction has begun work at the site.
