Adventist HealthCare to Close Takoma Park COVID-19 Alternate Care Site
Takoma Park’s former Washington Adventist Hospital site, which served as a COVID-19 alternate care facility, will be decommissioned by April 28, city officials announced. The hospital, which had been part of the Takoma Park community for about 100 years, closed after the White Oak Medical Center opened in 2019. An urgent care facility opened in the hospital’s emergency department but was closed last September.
Man Found Dead at Silver Spring Transit Center
A man was found dead inside a vehicle early Tuesday morning in a parking garage at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in downtown Silver Spring, according to Metro. A Metro spokesperson said that a man was found unresponsive in a vehicle found on the upper deck of the parking garage at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday by officers patrolling the Sarbanes Transit Center. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
David Eubanks Appointed Acting Deputy City Manager for Takoma Park
David Eubanks has been appointed as Acting Deputy City Manager for Takoma Park, city officials announced. The city hired Eubanks as the Assistant Director of Public Works in 2021, and he is currently the Director of Housing and Community Development (HCD). As HCD Director, Mr. Eubanks has been instrumental in advancing key city initiatives such as the library construction project, according to a city press release.
Police: Silver Spring Teen Missing Since March 6
Detectives from the county’s Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 13-year-old from Silver Spring. Samar Hammad was last seen at 9 pm. Monday at her residence on Fairland Rd. in Silver Spring, MCPD said in a news release. Samar stands at 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 90 pounds, has brown and red hair, and has brown eyes. She was last seen carrying a black and orange Six Flags bag and wearing brown flared pants with a paisley print.

Suspect Sought in Takoma Park Armed Carjacking
Police in Takoma Park are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed carjacking that occurred Saturday morning. Officers responded at approximately 10:28 a.m. on Saturday to the 7100 block of Maple Ave. for a report of an armed carjacking, police spokesperson Cathy Plevy said in an emailed community advisory. The suspect ordered the victim out of her vehicle at gunpoint. The victim complied and the suspect fled with her vehicle, Plevy said.

The minimum wage in Montgomery County will go up to nearly $17 per hour for large employers on July 1, county officials announced. The minimum wage for employers of 51 or more workers was set at eventually rise to $15 per hour in legislation passed in November 2017. That level was reached in 2021.
