Denim Brands Steal the Show at Coterie New York

Coterie New York was back in full swing this week, and denim brands took center stage, showcasing a mix of innovative techniques and fresh aesthetics.

London Fashion Week Designers Manipulated and Decorated Denim

From Sept. 22-24, top brands gathered at the women’s contemporary trade show to unveil their Spring/Summer 2025 collections. Held at the Javits Center, the event allows retailers to reconnect with industry leaders and discover new talent in the premium denim market.

“As one of the most popular fabrics in the world, having a strong presence and dedicated denim area on our Coterie show floor is extremely important to us,” Kelly Helfman , president of MMGNET Group, told Rivet. “Jeans will always be a fashion staple for all seasons, so we always aim to provide a selection of top brands for our retailers and buyers to shop.”

One prominent trend seen on the show floor was embroidered denim, and Turkish brand Mavi took it to the next level by showcasing a variety of embroidered two-piece sets—including light wash coordinates adorned with floral designs.

“Sets and embroidered denim…are doing incredibly well for us,” said Lisa Fink, director of sales at Mavi . “It’s what the market’s asking for.”

Sustainability also plays a key role in Mavi’s collection, which features vegan patches, coconut buttons, recycled tags and several denim styles made from 100 percent organic materials—including both threads and fabrications.

Another key trend for S/S ’25 is cuffed jeans, which Centric Brands-owned Hudson Jeans is adopting. In its new collection, the Los Angeles premium denim label features looser fits and lower rises, adding a “fun twist” with cuffed detailing at the hem for a rugged effect.

“We never have anything super clean, because that’s not really the Hudson girl. The Hudson girl is a little daring, a little edgy, but in an effortless manner,” said Hadley Feroce, account executive at Hudson Jeans. “So we want to carry that vibe into spring with the cuffing detail and looser fits.”

Morrison Denim is also playing with cuffed jeans—but with a snappy twist.

For S/S ’25, the California-based brand is giving the cuffed detailing a cleaner look by eliminating the raw hem and adding a button to the side of the jeans. This allows the wearer to enjoy a two-in-one style by easily adjusting the cuff for a polished finish or a more casual vibe.

“We try to ensure that both mom and daughter can wear it,” said an exec at Morrison. “Mom might wear it cuffed, while the daughter would likely wear it long and relaxed, giving her a Y2K, TLC style.”

Meanwhile, Delta Galil Industries-owned denim brand 7 For All Mankind is reinventing the denim wheel with a variety of statement pieces, including a high-rise bootcut jean with side slits, a denim maxi skirt featuring jagged slits and a variety of styles with distressing details.

Linen-infused denim is also featured in 7 For All Mankind’s S/S ‘25 collection, featuring “super soft and lightweight” pieces like jeans and dresses in a variety of washes, according to Ali Friedmann, director of sales for women’s at 7 For All Mankind.

Joe’s Jeans is also playing with wider fits and distressing details for S/S ‘25.

“Wide leg with some distressing is definitely coming back and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon,” said Katie Tabares, account executive at Joe’s Jeans. “We’re also seeing [the market] react really well to cuffed shorts that are a little longer. We also have Bermuda shorts for S/S ‘25 which features a longer inseam—just a bit trendier.”
