SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Wednesday, 28/22 News continued its Hunger Free Summer campaign with CEO Weinburg in its second week.

28/22 News Reporter Julie Dunphy was in South Abington Township helping to gather donations to help benefit children across Northeastern Pennsylvania.

During the event, Dunphy spoke with CEO Weinburg Director of Resource Development Gretchen Hunt who explained how the collection of donations works and where it all goes.

Hunt says all the non-perishable food collected on Wednesday will be sent to their food bank in Jenkins Township on Thursday.

“We have over 300 partners across Northeast Pennsylvania that are relying on these food donations to turn around and then send them home for the families in need,” Hunt explained.

Hunt says all cash donations will be used to access more food through purchase and to pay for trucking to be able to get the food to NEPA.

Julie Dunphy and other volunteers at the event will be there until 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Clarks Summit.

On Wednesday 3,400 pounds of food was collected!

28/22 News will continue the Hunger Free Summer campaign next Wednesday, July 3, in Dallas.
