PREP HOOPS: South Beloit rolls over Westminster Christian

ELGIN, Ill.— The South Beloit boys basketball team was coming off a special win over Mooseheart on Tuesday, when junior Ross Robertson passed Peter Scalia on the school all-time career scoring list.

The SoBos certainly didn’t let any that hangover into Thursday night as they took down Westminster Christian 70-39.

Robertson kept on adding to that record-breaking number by dropping 24 points on the Warriors (1-16, 1-6 Northeastern Athletic Conference). TreyMon Payton-Ruff was right behind with 20 points.

South Beloit (17-5, 6-0) will next have a big test as it hosts Christian Life (16-5, 5-1) on Friday night at 6:45 p.m.

• LAKE MILLS 84, BIG FOOT 48: The L-Cats had five different players score into double-figures on a hot-shooting Thursday night as they dominated the hosting Chiefs.

Big Foot (9-8) fell behind 34-23 by halftime as AJ Bender scored 11 points for Lake Mills (15-1) and teammate Tyler Wollin had nine.

The L-Cats poured on 50 points in the second half as Brady Benish dropped 17 points, Wollin scored 15 and Bender finished with 13.

Hudson Torrez had a team-high 21 points for the Chiefs and Patrick Corey was next nine.

• GIRLS: BIG FOOT 49, CLINTON 31: The Cougars made just six of 23 shots at the free throw line in a Rock Valley — Rock Division loss to the Chiefs at home Tuesday.

Big Foot (6-12, 3-6) led 22-16 at halftime and outscored the Cougars 27-15 in the second half. Clinton made 10 field goals in the game. Guard Zada Maly led Clinton (3-15, 1-9) in scoring with 10 points and guard Hannah Hahn chipped in nine points — with all three of her baskets coming from behind the arc.

The Cougars will travel to Brodhead on Tuesday.
